PHOTOS – T20 World Cup 2022: Team India land in Australia, hit the nets ahead of warm-up matches against Western Australia XI

T20 World Cup 2022: The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team left Mumbai on Thursday to participate in the T20 World Cup in Australia. The only notable absentee from India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad was the yet-to-be-announced replacement for injured pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. His Indian squad hit the ground running after arriving in Australia, with Rohit Sharma’s men kicking off their preparations for the T20 World Cup on Friday with their first training session at Perth’s WACA Stadium.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a photo of Indian players and support staff looking to start their training session in the brightest sunshine. “Hello and welcome to WACA. #TeamIndia is here for their first practice session,” the BCCI wrote on its social media accounts.

In Australia to play the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India will spend a week in Perth to acclimatize to the Australian conditions. India will then play two practice matches against the Western Australian XI on October 10 and 13.

Rohit Sharma’s men will then travel to Brisbane where they will play two warm-up matches against reigning champions Australia on October 17 and last year’s runners-up New Zealand on October 19.

India, winners of the inaugural Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, are in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, along with Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and two qualified teams of the first round of the tournament.

India will play the first match of their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), followed by matches on October 27 (against the top-ranked team in SCG), October 30 (vs. South Africa at Perth Stadium), November 2 (vs. Bangladesh at Adelaide Oval) and November 6 (vs. second-placed team at MCG).

Team India leaves for T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia

There were smiles all around as the Indian team left for Australia late on Thursday. The cricketers obliged the waiting fans with selfies and autographs and posed for a team photograph just before departure. Just before take-off, Virat Kohli posted a selfie with Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal and captioned it, “Australia in charge. Exciting times ahead.”

All-rounder Hardik Pandya posted a photograph along with Dinesh Karthik and wrote, “On route Australia. Let’s do it.”

Middle-order mainstay Surya Kumar Yadav shared a photo with skipper Rohit sharma, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and wrote, “Can’t wait for the next challenge. Excited. Nervous. But so motivated.”
