PS1 Box Office Collection Worldwide: Ace Mani Ratnam’s lavishly mounted film ‘Ponniyin Selvan-I’ has earned Rs 200 crores in its worldwide box office collection in the first week of its release, producers said Monday. With a star cast of Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the Tamil historical drama hit the theaters last Friday. Ratnam’s Madras Productions, one of the banners behind the film, took to Twitter to share the latest box office figures.
“Let’s go and make history! We extend our sincere thanks to all the audiences who have showered us with love. Catch #PS1 in theaters near you!” the production house captioned the post.

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 historical fiction novel, ‘Ponniyin Selvan-I’ tells the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman (played by Jayam Ravi), a powerful southern king who became the great emperor Chola Rajaraja Chola I.
The highly anticipated film opened to positive response from critics and audiences alike.

Also backed by Lyca Productions, Allirajah Subaskaran’s banner, ‘Ponniyin Selvan-I’ was released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
The film collected over Rs 80 crore worldwide on its first day.
“Ponniyin Selvan 1”, which had generated huge expectations, released on Friday to the delight of fans and received a thunderous welcome from the audience.
The film seems to have struck a chord with audiences of all ages. The film has especially attracted the attention of the elderly as it is based on the literary classic of Kalki.
Several senior citizens who had abandoned the practice of going to the cinemas are now making an exception in the case of this film as they are eager to see the classic on screen.
“Ponniyin Selvan”, the first part of which was released on Friday, is a story based on the early life of Prince Arun Mozhi Varman, who was later known as the great Raja Chozhan.
Dubbed by Mani Ratnam as his dream project, the film features a number of lead stars including actors Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Parthiban, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram , Prabhu and Prakash Raj.
The film is among the most expensive projects ever undertaken in the country and is based on the Tamil classic ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ by eminent writer Kalki.
