Former President Donald Trump turned to violent rhetoric again Friday night as he suggested Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had a “death wish” for supporting “democrat sponsored bills”.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, also racially referred to McConnell’s Taiwanese-born wife, Elaine Chao, as “the China-loving wife, Coco Chow!”
Trump did not directly point out which bills he was furious with McConnell for voting to pass, but McConnell this week backed a spending bill to avert a federal government shutdown and provide $12 billion in military and economic aid in Ukraine in its ongoing defense of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Russia.
McConnell has not commented on Trump’s post.
Tensions have risen between Trump and McConnell since the latter rebuked the former over the deadly Jan. 6 uprising and conceded President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. Trump said in August that McConnell should be replaced “immediately” as the Republican Senate leader.
