If heavily armed intruders tried to enter your front door, would you shoot them if they actually got in? Most Westerners don’t realize this, but this is how Russians see the conflict in Ukraine. They are fully convinced that this is a life and death struggle with NATO, and almost every night there is talk on television about the possibility of nuclear war. Russians are deeply frightened and truly believe that the future of their nation is at stake. In an existential struggle for national survival, there are no limits. The Russians will do whatever is necessary to ensure Russia’s survival, even if it means causing a global cataclysm.
Maybe you’re reading this and thinking that all of this sounds silly.
But it doesn’t matter what you think.
What matters is what the Russians believe.
When the Soviet Union dissolved, NATO promised that they would not expand eastward and swallow up the former Warsaw Pact countries.
But that’s exactly what happened.
Ukraine was supposed to be where it finally stopped, but now Russia finds itself fighting an army in Ukraine that has been trained by NATO, supplied with highly sophisticated NATO equipment, and constantly feeds on NATO intelligence.
In addition, the successful counter-offensive that Ukraine has launched has been led by many foreign fighters from NATO countries.
These fighters are supposedly in Ukraine “voluntarily,” but the Russians aren’t buying it.
Right now, the Russians are framing this war as a direct fight with NATO, and Vladimir Putin has just escalated the conflict a lot…
The desperate despot also ordered the mobilization of 300,000 military reserves – Russia’s first since World War II – and gave the go-ahead for referendums to be held in occupied areas of Ukraine that would make them part of Russia, the Kremlin . eyes at least
He vowed to use “all means” to defend the regions, saying: “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will use all available means to protect Russia and our people – this is not a bluff… I will insist, for every means at our disposal. Those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the tables can be turned against them.”
Putin warns that if push comes to shove, he won’t hesitate to use nuclear weapons.
And he is not the only prominent voice in Russia who speaks like this.
Just a few days ago, a Russian journalist suggested that Putin should have shot the Queen’s funeral because so many Western leaders were gathered in one place…
Putin should have shot the queen’s funeral while world leaders were all in one place, one of the Kremlin’s top propagandists has said.
Olga Skabeyeva, dubbed Putin’s “Iron Doll”, made the macabre suggestion last night, just hours after Her Majesty’s body was laid to rest at the end of 11 days of mourning.
The 37-year-old, who is married to a Russian politician, was speaking to guests about when and where her country might use its nuclear weapons when she said: “We should have done it today, all the best people are . [in Britain] for the funeral.’
You and I can look at it and think that Olga Skabeyeva must be completely crazy.
Because that was certainly a truly horrible thing for her to say.
But we have to understand that this is the kind of mood the Russians are in right now.
For them, bombing the West is a very real option because they are fully convinced that Western leaders want to destroy Russia. The following is from a Russian news source…
We must speak frankly and openly: the West is waging a fierce war against the Russian state, using local forces as proxies. And this is covered by the fig leaf of “defending democracy”. However, what they really want is for Russia to be destroyed. Forever! Irrevocably!
Like it or not, that’s what they believe.
And if we want to find a way out of this mess that doesn’t involve nuclear war, we need to clearly understand what they’re thinking.
Alexander Dugin is one of the most influential voices in Russia at the moment, openly warning that “the likelihood of a nuclear Armageddon is growing every day”…
We are on the brink of World War III, which the West is compulsively pushing for. And this is no longer a fear or an expectation, it is a fact. Russia is at war with the collective West, with NATO and its allies (although not with all of them: Turkey and Greece have their own position and some European countries, mainly but not only France and Italy, they don’t want to actively participate in a war with Russia). However, the threat of a third world war looms ever closer.
Whether it will involve the use of nuclear weapons is an open question. But the likelihood of a nuclear Armageddon grows every day. It is quite clear, and many US military commanders (such as former US commander in Europe Ben Hodges) openly state this, that the West will not even be satisfied with our complete withdrawal from the territory of the former Ukraine, we will end on our own soil, insisting on “unconditional surrender” (Jens Stoltenberg), “de-imperialization” (Ben Hodges), dismemberment of Russia.
In 1991, the West settled for the collapse of the USSR and our ideological surrender, mainly by accepting Western liberal ideology, political system and economics under Western leadership. Today, the red line for the West is the existence of a sovereign Russia, even within the borders of the Russian Federation.
This is the man who is often referred to as “Putin’s mastermind.”
Unfortunately, Putin is literally surrounded by people who think this way.
They truly believe that the United States and other Western powers will not stop until there is no longer a sovereign Russian nation.
For them, Russia’s very existence is at stake and this could justify the use of nuclear weapons if necessary.
As of June 2020, official Russian policy is that nuclear weapons may be used “when the very existence of the state is threatened”…
In June 2020, he signed a decree to update Russia’s nuclear doctrine that requires quoting it in full. “The Russian Federation retains the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the use of nuclear weapons and other types of weapons of mass destruction against itself and/or its allies…” But that sentence ends with a unusual statement: “… and also in the case of aggression against the Russian Federation with the use of conventional weapons, when the very existence of the state is endangered”.
So why don’t we take Putin seriously when he threatens to bomb us?
Here in the Western world, our leaders continue to assure us that there is almost zero chance of a nuclear war breaking out.
But in the meantime they continue to recklessly escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
If both sides keep upping the ante, eventually someone will cross a line that cannot be unhooked.
And once that happens, nothing will ever be the same again.
I don’t want to be caught in the middle of a cataclysmic nuclear exchange, and that’s why I’m asking the leaders of both sides to find a peaceful way out of this mess.
Unfortunately, both sides seem to be absolutely obsessed with winning at the moment, and that means there will be no peace.
