Kanye West’s latest effort could take the fashion industry in a new direction.
During a recent interview with Forbes, the “Donda” rapper revealed his plans for an ultra-affordable Ye Supply Store, where pieces would start at $20.
His statement comes in the midst of his battle with Gap, where he sold pieces under his Yeezy brand. He recently criticized the company for overselling his pieces compared to his typical collections.
West, who legally changed her name to Ye, said she could not set prices for the items and wanted the pieces to be available at $20. The rapper said Gap took the step to price them much higher.
Sharing his plans for the upcoming thrift store, West said his ultimate goal is to “make clothes for free.”
“When it’s sold in America, it’s going to be made in America, and when it’s sold in China, it’s going to be made in China,” he said.
“So the glasses will cost $20, and everything in the Ye Supply store will be $20. Also, we’re working on how to make the clothes free. Because life is free,” he added, referring -se to its futuristic aspect YZY SHDS Sunglasses he teased last month.
“It is our responsibility and pleasure to turn these dreams into reality, to simplify things and provide more space for people to imagine, [not] restrict or enforce ideas,” he added.
Last week, West canceled its lucrative partnership with Gap after two years, citing conflicting price points and miscommunication with the brand.
“Gap’s substantial breach of its contractual obligations has been costly,” said West’s attorney, Nicholas Gravante. he told CNN in a statement Thursday, claiming the chain had been unable to open Yeezy-branded stores as part of its partnership.
“Now you’re going to move quickly to make up for lost time by opening Yeezy retail stores,” Gravante said, after saying West had “no choice but to end his partnership.”
