St. JOHN’S, Newfoundland and Labrador — After a long week of conciliation meetings, the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the City of Mount Pearl have reached a tentative agreement. The bargaining team of Local 2099 of the CUPE, representing the municipal workers of the City Council, has agreed to present a provisional agreement to the members for a vote.
“I would like to thank the bargaining committee who worked very hard on behalf of our members,” said Ken Turner, president of CUPE 2099. “It has been a long and difficult journey to get to this point.”

Details of the contract will not be available until it has been presented to CUPE 2099 members, and both parties have ratified the agreement. Members will be asked to vote on the interim agreement this coming week.
Members of Local 2099 have been on strike since July 7.
“On behalf of the membership, I would like to thank the residents of Mount Pearl for their patience over the past 11 weeks and the respect they have shown for our picket lines,” Turner said.
CUPE Local 2099 represents approximately 220 municipal workers who work in recreation services, garbage collection, administration, taxation and finance, road maintenance, water and sewer, facilities and landscape maintenance, engineering, planning and month.
